Haga Park Wedding in Stockholm Sweden

Traveling to Stockholm Sweden for this Destination Elopement was the highlight of our year. We met Joachim and Melissa in Los Angeles. They came to our side of the world for a little vacation and decided they wanted to shoot their engagement photos while in LA. By the powers that be, somehow Melissa found us and we just clicked. These two are so easy going and we loved just talking and getting to know their love story and life across the world. During their engagement shoot, they even showed us some acro-yoga moves and we found ourselves just hanging out after their session.

First Visit To Sweden

When May rolled around, we couldn’t wait to get back to Europe - our first love. It’s funny because we never really had Sweden on our bucket list destinations, but we were blown away by the relaxed nature and kindness of the people there. Stockholm especially felt incredibly family-oriented in an inviting and organic way. The architecture is breathtaking and their every day way of life was really resonating with us. We especially loved their tradition of daily “fika” (time for socializing over coffee and a small bite).

The Wedding

We arrived several days early to acclimate to the time zone and allow us time to meet with Mel & Joach for a walk through. The days leading up to the ceremony were raining and cold. The elopement was planned to be outside, in Hagaparken or Haga Park in Stockholm. The lovely Ekotemplet or Echo Temple was the site for the ceremony and is an open covered structure overlooking the beautiful grounds of Haga Palace and Lake Brunnsviken.

It’s probably every couple’s worst nightmare watching the weather forecast go from bad to worse. The grounds were soaked and the wedding day was predicted to have early storms and showers. Mel didn’t let any of those stresses show. We couldn’t believe how relaxed everyone was. They kept saying “We just want to get married, and we obviously hope the weather is great for our guests, but at the end of the day being married is what matters the most.”

It’s probably because of this attitude that the Universe smiled on them. The morning of the wedding day was cold with light showers but the clouds parted and vanished the moment the bride and groom saw each other at their First Look! Seriously, the moment these two met at the lake for their special first moments together, the sun came out to play. And for the rest of the day we had sun and mild overcast. It was pure magic.
